Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

Hello, Bulldog Nation! I am Mrs. Black, and I am excited to serve as Rice Elementary's Principal for the 2025-2026 school year. I have been working within Rice ISD since 1997, when I started my very first teaching job as a 5th grade teacher. Over the years, I have taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. In 2014, I was the ESL interventionist at the IMS and soon after that, I became the ESL Director for the district. In 2020-21, I became the elementary principal, making this my fifth year in this role. 

I graduated from Corsicana HIgh School in 1992 and did my undergraduate work at Navarro College, Sam Houston State University, and the University of Texas at Tyler. I received my Master's Degree from Lamar University. I am married and have 5 kids, all Rice High School graduates. I am also a CiCi to 3 grandchildren. Rice ISD has been a second home to me for over half of my life. I believe that Bulldog Nation is a tight-knit family that celebrates the good times and pulls together through the hard times. There is no other place I would rather work or send my own children to school!

I strive to serve Rice Elementary as a compassionate leader who puts others first and seeks to find positivity in every situation. I want families to know that my door is always open, as communication between school and home is of utmost importance in educating students. I look forward to an outstanding school year, and I can't wait to see what the future holds!

¡Hola, Nación Bulldog! Soy la Sra. Black y estoy emocionada de servir como directora de la escuela primaria Rice durante el año escolar 2024-25. He estado trabajando en Rice ISD desde 1997, cuando comencé mi primer trabajo docente como maestra de quinto grado. A lo largo de los años, he enseñado en 4º, 5º y 6º grados. En 2014, fui interventora de ESL(Inglés como segundo lenguaje) en IMS y poco después me convertí en directora de ESL del distrito. En 2020-21, me convertí en directora de primaria, siendo este mi quinto año en este puesto. 

Me gradué de Corsicana High School en 1992 e hice mis estudios universitarios en Navarro College, Sam Houston State University y la Universidad de Texas en Tyler. Recibí mi maestría de la Universidad Lamar. Estoy casada y tengo 5 hijos, todos graduados de Rice High School. También soy CiCi de 3 nietos. Rice ISD ha sido mi segundo hogar durante más de la mitad de mi vida. Creo que Bulldog Nation es una familia muy unida que celebra los buenos tiempos y se une en los tiempos difíciles. ¡No hay otro lugar donde preferiría trabajar o enviar a mis propios hijos a la escuela!

Me esfuerzo por servir a la Escuela Primaria Rice como una líder compasiva que pone a los demás en primer lugar y busca encontrar positividad en cada situación. Quiero que las familias sepan que mi puerta siempre está abierta, ya que la comunicación entre la escuela y el hogar es de suma importancia en la educación de los estudiantes. ¡Espero tener un año escolar excepcional y no puedo esperar a ver lo que depara el futuro!
