Rice ISD Foster Care Services
Every Child has a right to an education.
Students in foster care are entitled to receive support to help maintain educational stability. The term foster care refers to all children and youth who are in the custody of the State of Texas. Students are identified via the enrollment process when the campus staff is provided a copy of the CPS Form 2085.
Students in foster care are entitled to:
- Immediate enrollment without records
- Attendance in the school of origin
- Excused absences for court-ordered appointments
- Free eligibility for Pre-K
- Transition assistance
- Information on college tuition and fee waivers
Services
In order to ensure that students in foster care have the opportunity to enroll in, attend, and succeed in school, the following services may be explored:

- School of Origin Transportation
- School Selection Provisions
- Access to Special Education
Enroll your child in school.
You can enroll your foster child even if you are missing immunization records and school records. In most instances, the school registrar will be able to assist with enrollment. Contact the Foster Liaison listed on this page for further assistance.

- Immunizations
- Social Security Card
- Health Physicals
- Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Report Cards
- High School Transcript
