Social Emotional Support Counselor

Social Emotional Support Counselor

I have acquired almost thirty years of experience as an educator as a teacher, academic counselor, and now a professional counselor.  Developing relationships and a positive rapport with students, parents, and faculty is essential. My goal is to empower students and teach them how to self regulate and apply in the moment coping strategies.  Learning these skills provides them the opportunity for both academic and emotional success.

As the Social Emotional  Counselor for the district, I provide students with assistance when they experience emotional dysregulation.  I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (License 87267) supervised by TIffany Warren, Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (License 65642).  Students are referred based on their individual needs.  Once consent from the student’s parent/guardian is received, the student will begin receiving services within the school day.  The length of treatment varies and is based on the student’s needs.  Rice ISD also provides counseling services through Texas Child Health Access Through Telemedicine (TCHATT).  Once consent from the student’s parent/guardian is received, their professional counselors provide five sessions through telemedicine during the school day. For more information, please contact the counselor on your student’s campus.

Social Emotional Learning

Social & Emotional Learning or SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, understand and manage emotions, achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships and make responsible and caring decisions.
